Foreign buyer buys housing in Spain at record levels in 2017
The purchase of housing by foreigners in Spain between April and June 2017 accounted for 13% of total operations, with about 15,600 houses.
The number of homes sold in Spain in the second quarter of 2017 amounted to 141,582, 14.7% more than in the same period of 2016. Of all these transactions, transactions by foreign residents in Spain grew by 13.1% %, to 23,007, adding up to 24 quarters upwards. In total, foreigners (residents and non-residents) bought 24,009 homes, 17% of the total.
In spite of the percentage maintenance of the foreign demand, the fact that it takes place in a growing market in terms of number of operations makes foreign demand truly increasing significantly, maintaining itself as one of the great strengths of the real estate market Spanish
The British continue to lead the buying of housing in Spain.
In a quarter that was not seen since 2011, British citizens are still the most interested in Spanish residential, with 14.9% of the total of homes acquired by foreigners, and break with the negative trend that was taking place in recent years, and reached record lows at the beginning of the year marked by the results of the referendum to leave the EU.

As in the first quarter of 2017, the Canary Islands (37.22%), the Balearic Islands (28.37%) and the Valencian Community (25.52%) concentrate the greater weight of the operations carried out by outsiders, something that has been repeated during the last five years. In this period, the progress of the region of Murcia in terms of sales and purchases to foreigners is significant.
